New Jersey Israel Commission, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey Host Meeting for Mayors of Hoboken and Nahariya, Israel

Mayor Ronen Marelly from Nahariya, Israel met with Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla last week as part of a larger official visit to New Jersey.

In addition to reaffirming a partnership between the two cities, the conversation centered around climate change as the two mayors renewed their commitment to work together in addressing this topic.

According to Mayor Ravi Bhalla, “Mitigating the effects of climate change is paramount to ensuring our communities continue to survive and thrive,” said Mayor Bhalla. “Mayor Marelly is an invaluable partner in the fight against climate change and I look forward to continuing the conversation as we work to make our cities more resilient against more severe and frequent storms. Thank you to Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and the New Jersey Israel Commission for strengthening the relationship and collaboration between Nahariya and Hoboken.”

The mayors were able to build upon shared experiences, most notably the catastrophic flooding both cities have endured in recent years. Bhalla and Marelly discussed how they led throughout both the impact and recovery of significant flooding, as well as best flood mitigation practices and infrastructure improvements in their respective cities.

The New Jersey Israel Commission and Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey worked together to facilitate this meeting. Nahariya is the official sister city of the Federation.
