New Jersey LCV Responds to Predicted Whale Stranding at Seaside Heights

TRENTON – The following is a statement from Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV regarding reports of the body of a whale floating off the coast of Seaside Heights today in anticipation of anti-wind groups, funded by the Caesar Rodney Institute and fossil fuel companies, continuing to perpetuate misinformation as part of a multi-state campaign to stop the growth of clean energy. Time and time again science including NOAA, BOEM, the Marine Mammal Commission, and the Marine Mammal Stranding Center have gone on record to state there is no evidence of a connection between strandings and offshore wind activities.

“The greatest threat to marine life is climate change. Ocean temperatures are rising, coral reefs are bleaching, ecosystems are collapsing, and marine life is suffering,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, New Jersey LCV. “In order to save the whales and other marine life, we must address climate change and offshore wind is part of the solution. Moving toward a 21st century clean energy economy will create good local jobs, slow the warming of our oceans and save marine life, and clean up New Jersey’s air. We call on all those who really care about protecting marine life to address actual threats to wildlife by slowing boats down, eliminating abandoned fishing nets, and getting the plastic garbage out of the water, and of course addressing climate change.”
