THE NEW JERSEY LEAGUE OF CONSERVATION VOTERS CELEBRATES ANOTHER YEAR OF SUCCESS AT 6TH ANNUAL GREEN TIE VIRTUAL GALA

PRINCETON – On June 17, 2020, the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters (New Jersey LCV) hosted their Sixth-Annual “Green Tie Gala.” Due to COVID-19, guests could not meet in person, but joined together to celebrate their hard-fought successes from a safe distance. The virtual event featured speeches from leading environmental champions in New Jersey and theatrical performances from the Broadway Green Alliance. With over 100 guests attending they raised approximately $45,500.

“We are so grateful to our supporters who have done so much to help New Jersey LCV do the important work of electing environmental champions, educating the public about why the environment matters, and holding our elected officials accountable,” said Ed Potosnak, Executive Director, of the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters. “While we can celebrate a year of success, even in the face of COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter Movement, we understand that there is still a significant amount of work to be done, and we can’t effectively combat climate change without addressing the systemic injustices and inequalities that plague our most vulnerable communities.”

The virtual gala included keynote speakers Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Frank Pallone. They both spoke about the need now more than ever to do the necessary work to protect the environment.

“From issues of environmental justice to clean air and clean water, I am proud of the work we have done, and I am committed to working with you,” said Senator Booker.

Congressman Pallone added, “LCV’s advocacy in the state is really so helpful in terms of what we are trying to do to protect the environment and address climate change.”

New Jersey LCV also recognized two environmental champions, Chairwoman Nancy Pinkin and Assemblywoman Britnee Timberlake, as Emerald Award Recipients for their leadership in the New Jersey Assembly. Nancy Pinkin, chair of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee is excited about the positive improvements that the legislature has spearheaded.

“Our initiatives have been the most productive in a decade. The difference was made by the vote, your vote, and LCV endorsing candidates that they thought would make a difference,” said Pinkin.

Assemblywoman Timberlake commented, “I just want to thank the New Jersey League of Conservation Voters for making sure that environmental issues remain a priority for New Jersey, not just with myself as a legislator, but throughout the entire legislature.”
