| New Jersey Manufacturers Urge Scott Garrett to Withdraw Nomination to Lead Export-Import Bank
NAM Launches Digital Ad Campaign in New Jersey
Washington, D.C., July 24, 2017 – The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) are calling on Scott Garrett to withdraw as the nominee for Export-Import (Ex-Im) Bank chairman and president. NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons laid out the importance of the Ex-Im Bank and manufacturers’ opposition to Garrett in a Wall Street Journal op-ed. Below are statements from both organizations calling on Garrett to withdraw:
“Millions of manufacturing workers rely on the Ex-Im Bank to reach the 95 percent of the world’s customers who live outside of the United States,” said Timmons. “The Ex-Im Bank is an important tool to level the playing field when trading with other countries, and Scott Garrett has spent years in Congress trying to destroy the bank. Garrett as head of the Ex-Im Bank would be a terrible trade deal for American manufacturing workers, and he should immediately withdraw his nomination.”
“We call on Scott Garrett to withdraw his nomination as president and chairman of the Ex-Im Bank,” said NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka. “The Ex-Im Bank supports 243 New Jersey businesses that support 28,834 jobs in our state, so it is important that its leader be someone who believes in its mission to help level the playing field against foreign competitors.”
The NAM also launched a digital ad campaign in New Jersey calling on Garrett to withdraw. The ad can be viewed below:
