New Jersey Reparations Council to Hold Third Virtual Public Session Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Faith & Black Resistance in New Jersey Committee Will Discuss its Work and Hear From Public
NEWARK – On Thursday, Jan. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET, the Faith & Black Resistance in New Jersey Committee of the New Jersey Reparations Council will hold a virtual public session to discuss its work to date and hear comment from members of the public who have pre-registered.
This event will be the Council’s third public session.
The Council, a collaboration of state and national experts from various disciplines, is the first of its kind in the state to acknowledge, confront and repair New Jersey’s deep and often overlooked involvement in slavery and its lasting impact on the contemporary life of Black people in the state. Over a period of two years, the Council will study New Jersey’s history and its connection to its current racial landscape, making strategic and bold policy recommendations for reparative justice policies in New Jersey.
Committee members will consider input from the public when doing their work and making their policy recommendations. On Juneteenth 2025, the Council will publish a final report.
