The New Jersey State Pipe Trades Endorse Smart Heat NJ Campaign, Oppose Energy Master Plan’s Electrification Mandate

Statement from Michael K. Maloney, President, New Jersey State Association of Pipe Trades:

“The New Jersey Pipe Trades have supported the Administration in all the actions they have taken to promote the working men and women of this state. However, we oppose the Energy Master Plan’s mandate for all electric heat. Electric heat pumps do not provide enough warmth when it’s cold outside, which will require electric resistance heat as a backup on top of the exorbitant cost and effort to retrofit homes and other buildings. For these reasons, the New Jersey Pipe Trades supports the Smart Heat NJ campaign promoting affordable, sustainable, and achievable goals to meet our climate challenges.”
