New Jersey Tax Incentive Task Force to Hold Fourth Public Hearing

TRENTON — The Task Force charged by Governor Phil Murphy with investigating the NJ Economic Development Authority, which has awarded billions of dollars in tax incentives under programs approved under the 2013 Economic Opportunity Act, will hold the fourth day of its public hearing on Thursday, October 17 at 10:00 a.m. At the hearing, the Task Force will present witnesses and evidence which will address deficiencies in the EDA’s review and oversight process, the agency’s current efforts to reform its due diligence process, issues with certain tax incentive applications and the EDA’s reliance on tax-incentive fees for its operating budget.

Spurred by a report from the State Comptroller that disclosed a lack of monitoring and oversight over past awards, as well as unsubstantiated jobs, the Task Force continues to review every award with paid benefits under two tax-incentive programs and will issue additional findings as the work proceeds.
