New Study: New Jersey’s Senior Workforce and COVID-19

SeniorLiving.org (https://www.seniorliving.org/) is out today with state-specific employment data on adults ages 55 and older, a group representing 23 percent of the workforce, the largest labor force share of any age group. The unemployment rate for older adults jumped in April to 13.6 percent from 2.6 percent in February.  Given that this age group is in a higher risk category for COVID-19, what does this mean for older adults and specific industries as New Jersey reopens its economy?

Here is the link to the full study and below are the findings for New Jersey: https://www.seniorliving.org/research/senior-employment-outlook-covid/:

% of Age 55 and older in workforce: 36.5% (ranked #9)

% of Age 55-64 in workforce: 71%

% of Age 65-74 in workforce: 30.9%

% of Age 75+ in workforce: 7.6%
