Nicole Gillespie Earns Central Labor Council Endorsement Ahead of Assembly Appointment Vote
MOORESTOWN, NJ [January 24, 2025] — Today, Moorestown Councilwoman and candidate for the 7th Legislative District of the New Jersey State Assembly Nicole Gillespie announced that she received the endorsement of the Burlington County Central Labor Council (CLC) for an appointment to fill the vacant seat of now Congressman Herb Conaway.
In a letter to Chairman Matt Riggins and Vice Chairwoman Heather Cooper, President Adam Liebtag wrote “Nicole has had an open door to labor when we contact her with a question or problem. Not only does she take our concerns seriously, but she is proactive and engages with labor as a constituency group and ally. Our Central Labor Council urges the BCDC to appoint Nicole Gillespie to ensure the best representation for Burlington County at this critical time.”
“I am deeply honored to receive the support of the Central Labor Council,” Gillespie said. “Unions are the backbone of our economy, and key to making the 7th Legislative District a safe and prosperous place to live, work, and raise a family. Burlington County is home to 150,000 union members and if I am lucky enough to get to serve in the Assembly I promise to represent their interests in Trenton each and every day.”
Councilwoman Gillespie, who recently concluded five years as Moorestown’s Mayor, is a decorated Navy veteran and accomplished public servant. A graduate of the US Naval Academy, Gillespie holds degrees in engineering and physics as well as a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. She has earned numerous awards for her service and accomplishments in Burlington County, including Scouting America’s Woman of Achievement Award in 2024, the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Public Voice Award, the county’s 2023 Outstanding Woman of the Year in STEM, the 2022 NJ Federation of Democratic Women Outstanding Elected Official award and in 2020 was named one of NJBIZ’s Best 50 Women in Business.
As Mayor, Gillespie championed economic development, promoted environmental conservation, and led efforts to meet the Township’s affordable housing obligation, all while bringing new revenue sources to minimize the burden on taxpayers. Under her leadership, Moorestown secured major grants for open space preservation, infrastructure improvements, and developed innovative solutions to revitalize the township’s commercial districts.
