NJ ACTIVISTS GROUPS LAUNCH COORDINATED STATEWIDE ACTIONS AGAINST BRETT KAVANAUGH’S NOMINATION TO SUPREME COURT

NEW JERSEY- As the US Senate expects to hold a vote this Friday on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the US Supreme Court amidst strong allegations of sexual assault, New Jersey Working Families Alliance, Make the Road NJ, NJ7 Forward, NJ11th for Change, Westfield 20/20 and dozens of activists groups have joined the call to #BelieveSurvivors and participate in the national march to #CancelKavanaugh.

Activists will host a variety of calls, protests, and vigils across the state to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault and fight back against the Trump nominee expected to rollback decades of womens, immigrant, and LGBTQ rights.

The schedule of events includes:

Tonight, October 2, 8PM: New Jersey Working Families Alliance will host an action alert call with Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman to discuss the state of play in D.C. and next steps in defeating Kavanaugh’s nomination.

Registration for the Action Alert call is available here.

Wednesday, October 3: NJ7Foward, Westfield 20/20, Make the Road NJ, and Working Families Alliance will host vigils in support of survivors of domestic violence across locations in the 7th Congressional District. Facebook Event here.

Thursday, October 4, Starting 6AM: New Jersey Working Families Alliance and labor partners will launch activist buses from Newark, Elizabeth, Montclair, New Brunswick, and Cherry Hill to Washington D.C. to attend the national #CancelKavanaugh: Believe Survivors March on Washington, coordinated by Women’s March and CPD Action.

“Thousands of women, families, workers, and allies were alarmed by the mounting disrespect Dr. Christine Blasey Ford faced as she relived her traumatic experience in front the Senate Judiciary Committee,” said Analilia Mejia, Executive Director of New Jersey Working Families Alliance. “Now we’re taking a stand and letting the country know that New Jersey believes survivors. This is a key moment in our country’s history: will stand back and allow a man accused of sexual assault rise to a lifetime appointment in the Supreme Court or will we pushback against this hateful narrative and fight for women, people of color, immigrants, and workers?

As more actions are planned and news updates break out of Washington, New Jersey Working Families Alliance has launched NJBelievesSurvivors.org. This website will allow activists groups to share their events in a centralized location and provide the latest events to concerned citizens. NJ activists and concerned citizens will also be able to sign up activists buses to Thursday’s action in DC as well.
