NJ ACTIVISTS PLEDGE TO TAKE ACTION IN DC AND HOME TO CANCEL KAVANAUGH AND GET OUT THE VOTE IN NJ

NEW JERSEY- Hundreds of activists joined an emergency action call hosted by New Jersey Working Families Alliance and anchored by U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and Labor Leader/ activist Hetty Rosenstein. As U.S. Senate leadership proclaims their intention to hold a vote by week’s end in order to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s onto the US Supreme Court, local groups including New Jersey Working Families Alliance, Make the Road NJ, NJ7 Forward, NJ11th for Change, Westfield 20/20, New Jersey Citizen Action and dozens more are organizing their members to descend upon Washington D.C. and turn out the vote in New Jersey.

Activists have also launched a website, NJBelievesSurvivors.org in their effort to share information on upcoming volunteer canvasses as well as to share up to date information on the battle to prevent the confirmation of a candidate whom has been credibly accused of sexual assault.

New Jersey Working Families Alliance and labor partners will launch activist buses from Newark, Elizabeth, West Orange, New Brunswick, and Cherry Hill to Washington D.C. to attend the national #CancelKavanaugh: Believe Survivors March on Washington, coordinated by Women’s March and CPD Action.

“The time for hand wringing and silence is over” said Analilia Mejia, Executive Director of New Jersey Working Families Alliance. “Now, more than ever, direct action is needed in our nation’s capital as well as in our communities. We refuse to stay silent and allow an unfit candidate to ascend onto the highest court of the land.”

“The battle for our nation will take place in New Jersey, where we are within reach of flipping the House of Representatives” said Labor Leader and activist Hetty Rosenstein. “We are prepared to do everything necessary including knocking on doors and traveling to Washington in order to save Democracy.”

Senator Cory Booker and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman urged call participants to continue to take action and remain focused on the power of activism. Call participants were reminded that the actions of activists like themselves on an elevator in Washington D.C. is what moved Senator Jeff Flake (AZ).
