NJ Chamber of Commerce President Tom Bracken’s
Statement on the Gateway Project
The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce has been a long-time and strong advocate for the importance of investing in New Jersey’s infrastructure.
An efficient system of roads, bridges and tunnels that allow the safe and cost-effective transportation of people and goods is critical to attracting and keeping business in this state.
As former Congressman Bob Roe said, “Our infrastructure is the foundation of our economy.”
No infrastructure project is more important than the Gateway Project.
Gateway is an investment in New Jersey’s long-term economic health and growth. Without it, we will not have a fully maximized infrastructure and it will lessen our ability to compete for business with neighboring states.
This morning’s news conference in Secaucus illustrates the compelling vision of Gateway.
This is one of those rare times when there is virtually unanimous agreement and support across the board – the Governor’s office, our federal and state legislators as well as business and labor leaders have spoken with one voice in support of Gateway.
We want to thank Gov. Phil Murphy for his leadership on the Gateway Project.
We also want to thank Sen. Bob Menendez, and Reps. Bill Pascrell, Donald Payne Jr. and Albio Sires who were in attendance at the event in Secaucus. We would also like to acknowledge Sen. Cory Booker, who was required to be in Washington D.C. this morning, and Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen for their leadership on this project, as well all of our Congressional representatives who have kept the Gateway Project front and center in Congress.
The N.J. Chamber stands ready to continue its advocacy and support for the Gateway Project and we urge the fastest possible approval of funding for it.
