NJ Citizen Action applauds increased health coverage access for DACA recipients
May 3rd, 2024, Newark: Following the news that Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients will have increased access to health coverage from November 1, 2024 under new policies announced by the Biden-Harris Administration, New Jersey Citizen Action’s Health Care Program Director, Laura Waddell, issued the following statement:
“Health care is a human right and we applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for removing the barrier to health coverage for DACA recipients. In New Jersey this will affect over 13,000 people, according to a 2023 report by the Migration Policy Institute, and nationally, approximately 100,000 DACA recipients will now be able to sign up for an Affordable Care Act (ACA) plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace or for coverage through a Basic Health Program. This is moving the needle on health equity. It has been a long road to get here and we want to continue to build on these successes until everyone who wants it, can access quality health care at a price they can afford whenever they need it.”
