Launches Free Online Training Program  

5,000+ Classes Available for the Unemployed and Others 

 

TRENTON –The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has launched SkillUp New Jersey, a free virtual training program to help jobseekers anywhere in the state upgrade their skills and train for certifications. 

 

The NJDOL partnered with Metrix Learning to develop the SkillUp New Jersey program, which offers individuals a no-cost opportunity to acquire new skills, enhance existing skills, or prepare for certification training through a web-based learning management system. 

 

With significant numbers of New Jerseyans out of work due to the pandemic, and without being able to offer traditional in-person instruction safelyI am excited about this free, virtual service, which will help our workers receive the skills and training they need to land on their feetor enhance their skills,” said Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo. “This program can be used to learn new skills, or brush up on ones that may have gotten rusty, so workers are ready for new employment as opportunities arise.”  

 

The Metrix Learning platform offers New Jersey workers more than 5,000 online Skillsoft courseswhich are widely used by Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of highdemand industry sectors, including, but not limited to, information technology, business analysis, customer service, project management, and digital literacy. Available courses span from basic work readiness skills for new workers to tailored training for high-level professionals and managementwith topics such as Customer ServiceMicrosoft OfficeAdobeQuick BooksAnalytical Skills, Data Management/ReportingTime Management, Leadership SkillsHealth & Safety, and First Aid, among many others. In addition, the platform offers training tracks leading to more than 100 industry certifications. 

 

A link to the SkillUp New Jersey website will be emailed to all current unemployment claimants. But the tool can be used free for 180 days by any residents. Internet access is required, and many courses are accessible via mobile device. Some courses are also available in Spanish and Chinese (Mandarin and traditional). 

 

Workforce Development Boards in Central New Jersey have made the tool accessible to  

jobseekers in Middlesex, Hunterdon and Somerset counties, leading to statewide deployment.
