NJ Policy Perspective: NJ Impact of the Dream Act (with Congressional District data)
Today, New Jersey Policy Perspective is releasing a new fact sheet on the New Jersey impact of the Dream Act of 2017.
Key findings:
- Between 74,300 and 101,400 young New Jerseyans would benefit from the Dream Act.
- The legislation would boost the state's economy with between $800 million and $2.67 billion in additional economic activity each year.
- Thousands of residents in every Congressional District stand to benefit; and each District would see a sizable economic boost.
"With thousands of DACA recipients set to lose their work permits and protection from deportation, time is of the essence for Congress to pass a clean Dream Act and boost the prospects of millions of young immigrants - including tens of thousands in New Jersey," said Erika Nava, a policy analyst at New Jersey Policy Perspective and the author of the fact sheet. "A clean Dream Act would do more than help these young people, though - it would also boost New Jersey's economy. There should be no more delays from Congress - we need a clean Dream Act, and we need it now."
