NJ Progressive Organizations Host Virtual Rally Demanding Shut Down of Barrett Hearings

Groups Urge Senator Booker to Use Every Tool at His Disposal to Delay Hearings

Majorty of Americans Believe Supreme Court Vacancy Should be Determined by Election Winner

New Jersey (October 14, 2020) — Leading progressive organizations held a virtual rally today urging Democrats to use every tool at their disposal to stop the US Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Judge Amy Coney Barrett until after Inauguration. The groups include Make the Road Action NJ, LUPE, Jersey Working Families, Citizen Action, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of NJ, Garden State Equality, Blue Wave and more. Recent polls show that the majority of Americans believe the Supreme Court vacancy should  be determined by the election winner. Speakers at the rally included health care advocates, immigrant youth and racial justice advocates who will highlighted the impact of a potential Barrett confirmation on the future of the Affordable Care Act, the presidential elections, voting rights, reproductive rights and immigration.

On Friday, progressive NJ organizations sent a letter to Senator Cory Booker, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, urging him to uses procedural tactics to stop the hearing, including requesting a one week delay and blocking quorum.
