On Monday, October 15th, at 6:00pm, Hillary Clinton will come to the Liberty Steak House in Jersey City to help Senator Robert Menendez raise funds for his campaign for U.S. Senate. The theme of the evening’s event is “Women for Menendez: An Evening Reception,” and the costs of attending are $5400/plate, $2700/plate, $1000/plate or $500/plate.

Members of the Hoffman for Senate campaign, Moxley for Congress campaign, the Green Party of New Jersey, Hudson County Green Party, Green Party of New Jersey’s Latinx Caucus, Turn Left Action and New Jersey Revolution Radio plan to protest outside this event between 4:30pm and 6:00pm, outside the Liberty Steak House, at 111 Montgomery Street, in Jersey City.

“The costs of this dinner show exactly what is wrong with politics in this country,” said Brian Powers of New Jersey Revolutionary Radio. “The cost of just one plate at this fundraiser could go a long way toward helping out many people not in the 1%, but part of the 99% in this country. Instead, the money is being frittered away funding negative ad campaigns among candidates who refuse to address issues that really matter to people.”

“Hillary Clinton’s presence here in New Jersey is one more example of how both mainstream political parties are obsessed with war,” said Madelyn Hoffman, the Green Party’s candidate for U.S. Senate. “I remember all too well her response to the U.S. assassination of Ghaddafi in 2011 – ‘we came, we saw, he died,’ followed by laughter. That action in Libya resulted in the re-emergence of the slave trade in Libya, certainly no laughing matter.”

“From the beginning of my campaign, I have condemned U.S. support for Saudi Arabia’s bombing of Yemen amidst an expanding humanitarian crisis and criticized continued U.S. support for the Israeli occupation of Palestine without a word of condemnation of the killing of Palestinian protesters at the fence between Gaza and Israel. Still, neither Bob Hugin nor Senator Menendez has said a word. This is one reason my campaign has called the next month leading up to Election Day an ‘Anti-war Autumn.’ We call for the billions spent on war overseas to be brought back home and used for schools, health care, jobs creation, education, fighting climate change and so much more.”

“It’s time to get big money out of politics,” said Diane Moxley, Green Party candidate for U.S. Congress in District 7. “The Greens take no corporate money. This allows the Greens to represent the 99%, not the corporate donor class. We will protest big money in politics on Monday night and inform the public that there is an alternative on Election Day.”

“At the end of August, New Jersey had 2.3+ million unaffiliated voters. Is this dinner reflective of those people’s ideals and needs? Imagine what one $5,400 plate could do to impact someone’s life. Heck even a $250 plate could help a struggling family have food on the table,” said Craig Cayetano, member of the Green Party of New Jersey and Liaison of the GPNJ Latinx caucus. “This shows the sheer audacity of the 1%. Both ‘Bobs’ are no different from each other. I’m calling for fair polling that includes the name of every ballot qualified candidate, and equal coverage by the media of all candidates and open debates. I’m rejecting the narrative that there are only ‘two choices’ and supporting Madelyn Hoffman, the Green Party candidate for US Senate this November 6th.”
