CLARK – The NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council today announced their unanimous endorsement of Senator Stephen Sweeney for state Senate in the 3rd Legislative District.

“Senator Sweeney has consistently been a champion of the people of New Jersey both as a representative of the 3rd district and as Senate President.  He has guided his party and the Senate in a judicious and reasoned manner, aggressively attacking the issues that confront our state,” said William T. Mullen, President of the Building Trades Council.

“His bipartisan approach to governing has allowed Senator Sweeney to amass an extraordinary record of accomplishments.” Mullen said that Sweeney, who is a member of Camden Ironworkers Local #399 and a vice president of the Ironworkers International Union, has a special affinity for working men and women and for making New Jersey more “business friendly” for their employers.

Sweeney has led initiatives in the State Legislature to increase the minimum wage and enforce prevailing wage protections, to protect the safety of workers, to establish paid family leave, and to provide tax and other incentives for businesses to locate here.

“As we look across the country and see the most partisan and hostile political climate of our lifetimes we have to look no farther than the New Jersey State House where Senator Sweeney governs in a bi-partisan manner while minimizing the often corrupting influence of special interests.”

“The NJ State Building & Construction Trades Council, comprised of the 15 international building trades unions listed below representing over 150,000 working men and women of New Jersey, unanimously endorses Senator Stephen Sweeney for another term in the state Senate.  New Jersey continues to need his leadership and selfless public service.”
