NJ State Building Trades Endorse Ambassador Phil Murphy for Governor; Applaud Murphy’s dedication to the working men and women of New Jersey
The New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council today announced their unanimous endorsement
of former United States Ambassador to Germany Phil Murphy for Governor.
“Ambassador Murphy has demonstrated his commitment to the building trades men and women of New Jersey.
We have determined that Ambassador Murphy shares our values and will be the leader New Jersey needs to put our members backs to work,” said William T. Mullen, a former ironworker and leader of Ironworkers Local Union Local 11 and President of the Building Trade’s Council.
The State Building and Construction Trades Council unanimously endorsed Ambassador Murphy at their Executive Board Meeting at Iron Workers Local 11 in Perth Amboy this morning.
“He is tirelessly traveling to every corner of our state to witness the specific skills and contributions of each of our 15
international building trades unions to infrastructure projects. He is spending time with our community to understand the importance of prevailing wage protections, safety standards that protect our workers, and the tax incentives necessary to incentivize businesses to invest in New Jersey. In addition, he was a proponent of the state’s new Transportation Trust Fund formula.”
President Mullen said that Ambassador Murphy is running for governor at a time when political hostility and partisanship is at an all-time high around the country.
However, the manner in which he conducts himself suggests that he will be a unifying leader for the state and a strong ally in the State House.
“The New Jersey State Building and Construction Trades Council, comprised of the 15 international building trades unions listed below representing over 150,000 working men and women of New Jersey, unanimously endorses Ambassador Phil Murphy in the Democratic gubernatorial primary and in the general election this year. We are confident that he will govern New Jersey in a judicious and reasoned manner. New Jersey needs his leadership.”
