NJ Working Families Alliance Lauds Governor Phil Murphy for Signing Automatic Voter Registration Bill into Law

New Jersey to enact most expansive automatic voter registration policy in the country

TRENTON — In response to Governor Phil Murphy signing legislation to enact Automatic Voter Registration at Motor Vehicle Agency and other NJ agencies (S481/A2014), New Jersey Working Families Legislative Director Louis Di Paolo issued the following statement:

“We commend Governor Phil Murphy and bill sponsors Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Senator Joseph Vitale for championing the most expansive automatic voter registration policy in the nation. Democracies thrive when everyone can participate in the decisions affecting their families and communities, and automatic voter registration eliminates an unnecessary barrier to participating in the electoral process. Extending automatic voter registration beyond the usual boundaries will advance racial justice, bringing more voters and diverse viewpoints to our state’s politics. New Jersey Working Families Alliance is proud to have led the fight for this bill. It’s an historic achievement for the people of New Jersey, the state legislature, and for Governor Murphy in his first 100 days in office.”
