NJBIA Statement on Indoor Capacity Increases Announced by Gov. Murphy
NJBIA President and CEO Michele Siekerka released the following statement regarding the incremental increase of indoor capacity for dining establishments and other businesses announced by Gov. Phil Murphy today.

Today’s announcement by Governor Murphy is another good step in the right direction, as we have seen a relaxation of capacity restrictions in many states throughout the nation. However, New Jersey still trails many states, including those in our region, in terms of capacity limits. Obviously, we hope that increases in occupancy occur with urgency as data dictates, because we know our businesses need all the help they can get.

“Last week, the New Jersey Business Coalition issued a letter to Governor Murphy urging a comprehensive reopening plan. The letter, signed by more than 90 major business and nonprofit associations, requests definitive data thresholds to drive reopening decisions, with updated restrictions that are narrowly tailored to particular circumstances; new approaches to indoor and outdoor gathering limits; and a prudent reopening of childcare centers, which are currently in a severely disadvantaged position.

“We stand by at the ready to work with the Murphy administration to help bring more solid benchmarks, transparency and predictability to New Jersey businesses.”
