NJBPU President Fiordaliso Named Secretary-Treasurer of MACRUC
TRENTON – New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) President Joseph L. Fiordaliso has been named Secretary-Treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC). MACRUC promotes the region-wide advancement of public utility regulation and the related regulatory, legislative, and policy interests of MACRUC membership, consistent with MACRUC member state public utility commissions.
MACRUC is a regional affiliate of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), the organization which represents state public service commissions.
As a member of the MACRUC executive board, President Fiordaliso is tasked with advancing issues in public utility regulation that affect consumers, regulatory commissions, other state and federal agencies, and the electric, telecommunications, natural gas and other industries regulated by member states.
“We are proud and excited to play a key role in Governor Philip Murphy’s ambitious environmental agenda as the Garden State reclaims its status as a national leader in the clean energy movement,” President Fiordaliso said.
“But we also realize that building consensus and taking a multi-state approach to utility regulation is how we reach critical mass to achieve our national environmental and regulatory goals. This is why I am so honored that MACRUC has named me to its executive board,” he added.
“President Fiordaliso, who served as the Chair of the MACRUC Investment Committee, was instrumental in creating the strong financial position MACRUC currently holds,” said Michelle Malloy, NARUC, Senior Director of Meetings and Member Services.
MACRUC’s primary areas of focus include: advancing public interest to ensure that consumers remain protected from market power abuses; exploring of the benefit of competition where applicable and consistent with state law; and exchanging information on regulatory, policy, and administrative issues between MACRUC and other regional state public utility commissions, and between MACRUC and federal regulatory commissions and departments that are represented in NARUC.
President Fiordaliso succeeds Commissioner Willie Philips of the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia.
