Newark, July 21, 2024–New Jersey Citizen Action’s Executive Director Dena Mottola Jaborska released the following statement today following President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the Democratic ticket in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

“We are greatly saddened by President Biden’s decision, but also respect it. In a career spanning many decades, his decision-making has been guided by what is best for his constituents and his country, and we believe that is the case now.

“President Biden has presided over one of the most effective administrations in recent history. His landmark accomplishments have made America a more just and equitable country for working families, people of color, women, seniors, and our most vulnerable communities.

“The Biden administration guided our country out of the chaos of the pandemic and rebuilt America’s economy with tens of millions of new jobs. It has made unprecedented investments in healthcare, clean energy, and infrastructure. It took on Big Pharma to lower runaway prescription drug prices, and ensured millions more Americans have access to quality, affordable healthcare.

“Under President Biden, the IRS received the tools it needed to crack down on wealthy tax cheats, while our biggest corporations have started paying their fair share in taxes. He has also helped secure the future of millions of Americans by the historic forgiveness of some $170 billion in student loan debt.

“Above all, President Biden, and key leaders under him, have brought competency, expertise, compassion, and integrity to his administration. They have helped champion people of color, LGBTQIA+ communities, and other vulnerable populations, and restored faith in the idea that government should work for everyone, not just the wealthy or politically connected.

“President Biden has created a tremendous platform for progress from which we can continue to build a fairer, more equitable America. We urge the Democratic Party, all our elected leaders, and American voters, to select a presidential candidate who can continue his historic legacy. ”
