NJDSC Chair LeRoy J. Jones, Jr. Statement on President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
TRENTON, NJ – NJDSC Chair LeRoy J. Jones Jr., is releasing the following statement:
Like many, I watched President Biden’s marathon press conference last night and came away impressed with his mastery of both foreign and domestic policy. The President highlighted his work with NATO to protect nations around the world, his Administration’s successful efforts to create jobs and reduce inflation, and the need to stand against gun makers and distributors and side by side with women everywhere to protect their right to make their own health care decisions.
We have all seen the work he has done these last four years to strengthen our economy and deliver on the promises he made in 2020 with respect to reproductive freedom, climate change, student loan relief, and many other issues. And I cannot overstate how hard he has worked to ensure and protect the civil rights of our Black and brown communities.
Families sometimes have disagreements, and our Democratic Family is no different. In fact, one of the many things that makes our Democratic Party best equipped to lead both in New Jersey and around the country is our ability to have those difficult conversations and then move forward thoughtfully and forcefully. Unlike Donald Trump’s MAGA cult members hold over the state and national Republican Party, we have always embraced respectful debate.
President Joe Biden is our nominee and, as such, we support him, the Democratic Party and our shared Democratic values. Now it is time to move forward because, frankly, the alternative cannot be overstated as it relates to the very future of our democracy.
President Trump has already tried to overthrow our government once and, if he is elected again, his implementation of Project 2025 will give him a second bite at that apple. He will strip away women’s rights, he will indiscriminately round up immigrants and their families for deportation, he will use the office to ‘punish’ his political enemies, he will wipe away decades of civil rights gains, and he will act like a true dictator.
We know he will do this and more because he has told us. His staffers worked on Project 2025. This is his brainchild, the terrifying legacy he wishes to forge for a second term.
It’s past time for us to coalesce around our Presidential ticket and do the hard work required of us to make sure Democrats win up and down the ballot this November. There is simply too much at stake to do anything less.
