NJDSC Chairman Jones Releases Statement on Midterm Elections

Jones: NJ elected true public servants, rejected right-wing extremism

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman LeRoy J. Jones, Jr., is releasing the following statement regarding the 2022 Midterm Elections:

“The people of New Jersey just sent a resounding message that we will continue to reject right-wing extremism and instead elect public servants who will fight for our middle class families and our personal freedoms. Democrats in competitive races like Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill, Congressman Andy Kim and Congressman Josh Gottheimer triumphed today because they have demonstrated their commitment to their constituents, their willingness to work across the aisle, and their determination to stand up for our bedrock Democratic principles and values.

They will all be returning to Washington along with the rest of our outstanding re-elected Democratic delegation, to continue fighting for all of us and standing up to the rising tide of extremism in the Republican Party. Congratulations also to Congressman-elect Rob Menendez, Jr., who has won his first term representing the 8th District, as well as our Democratic House delegation including Congressman Donald Norcross, Congressman Frank Pallone, Congressman Bill Pascrell, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr. and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman.

And while the results of the 7th District remain close, we will wait for every vote to be counted. Congressman Tom Malinowski is a believer in New Jersey values and fights for his constituents each day in Congress. The political opinions of the 7th District are as diverse as New Jersey and its election results have often been close. As the votes continue to be counted, it is irrefutable that Congressman Malinowski’s public service and commitment to the people of New Jersey are second to none.

I also thank congressional candidates Tim Alexander and Matt Jenkins for their commitment to our party and our democracy, as well as all other Democratic candidates throughout the state whether they were winners or came up short.

With the leadership of Governor Phil Murphy, our Democratic U.S. Senators, our newly-elected and re-elected Democratic House caucus, Democratic elected officials up and down the ballot and our grassroots advocates working to bring positive change to their own communities, New Jersey Democrats are moving forward and ready to build on this momentum heading into state legislative elections next year. We will not allow Republican extremism to take hold in our state and we will keep fighting for a stronger, fairer, more equitable New Jersey.

I offer my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported our candidates, who knocked on doors, made phone calls, sent texts, spoke to their neighbors, donated and much more — these victories were made possible by their hard work and commitment to our democracy and the Democratic Party.”
