NJDSC Coalitions Condemns Use of Hate Symbols at India Day Parade in Edison
NJDSC Caucuses Express Solidarity With Indian American Community

TRENTON, NJ – NJDSC Coalitions, consisting of the AANHPI Caucus, Black Caucus, Emerging Leaders Caucus, Latino Caucus, LGBTQ+ Caucus, Muslim Caucus, Progressive Caucus, South Asian American Caucus, Veterans Caucus, and Women’s Caucus, are releasing the following joint statement in response to the use of hate symbols at a recent India Day Independence Parade in Edison, NJ:

“NJDSC Coalitions unequivocally condemns the use of any symbols or messages that represent division and hate at the India Day Independence Parade that took place in Edison recently. The event was supposed to be a day of celebrating unity among Indian Americans – behaviors that create division through pressure tactics and intimidation are not welcome and have no home in New Jersey. Every Indian American has the right to participate in a celebration of their culture and history without the fear of coercion or violence against them. That is one of the leading principles of American democracy and NJDSC Coalitions stands by this in strong solidarity with all the communities that make New Jersey stronger.”
