NJDSC Executive Director Saily Avelenda Releases Statement on the Second Impeachment of President Donald Trump

TRENTON, NJ — Following a bipartisan vote by the United States House of Representatives to impeach President Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection, New Jersey Democratic State Committee Executive Director Saily Avelenda has released the following statement:

“Today’s bipartisan vote to impeach President Trump for the second time should send a clear message to the forces of right-wing extremism that they will never be allowed to incite violence against our democracy without swift and severe repercussions. While it was gratifying to see several Republican lawmakers break from this failed presidency and join the unified Democratic Caucus in holding President Trump accountable, we are absolutely incensed that Jeff Van Drew and Chris Smith were not among them. Both of them had an opportunity to finally stand up against the lies, the calls for violence, the racism, the incompetence and the outright failure that is the Trump Administration, and instead they both again put party and fealty to Donald Trump over country.”
