NJEA Endorses Democrats Eileen Della Volle & Erin Wheeler For NJ State Assembly 10th Legislative District

BRICK, NJ (Sept 3., 2019)—Eileen Della Volle and Erin Wheeler, the Democratic challengers for NJ
State Assembly in the 10th Legislative District, has earned the endorsement of NJEA PAC, the New
Jersey Education Association’s Political Action Committee. The NJEA represents more than 200,000
New Jersey teachers, staff, student members and retired educators.

Della Volle and Wheeler said preserving public education and fighting for Ocean County’s fair share of
state school funding was one of the key factors motivating them to seek state office. The state cut tens of
millions of dollars in aid from school districts across the 10th district, leaving districts to face massive
reductions in staff and services.

“New Jersey’s top-rated public schools are a major asset for this state, and the NJEA is a driving force
behind that,” said Erin Wheeler, a chemistry teacher at Communications High School in Monmouth
County and president of her local teachers’ union. “During my 14-year career as a public school
teacher and union member, I have worked along with the NJEA leadership and membership to make
sure our schools have the resources they need and to fight for fair wages and secure benefits for
teachers. We must make sure that teaching continues to attract the best and the brightest and does not
become a profession of last resort. With the support of the NJEA, I hope to be a voice for our schools,
students and teachers in the state legislature. I am incredibly honored and proud to have the NJEA
support,” Wheeler said.

“As someone who grew up under very disadvantaged circumstances, the public education that was
available to me provided the first stepping stone to a better life and future, so it is very concerning to
me to see the state make such drastic funding cuts to Ocean County’s public schools, ” said Eileen
Della Volle. “The NJEA is fighting every day to preserve and improve public education, and I am
extremely honored to have their support. We must make sure our schools have the resources to provide
the education and services our students need and deserve to be prepared for a successful future,” Della
Volle said.
