200,000-Member Teachers Union say Incumbents will Fight for Fair Funding

FREEHOLD TWP, NJ — Today, New Jersey’s largest union of educators announced their unanimous endorsement of Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling and Assemblywoman Joann Downey’s bid for New Jersey’s 11th Legislative District.

Denise King, president of the Monmouth County Education Association, said Houghtaling and Downey’s commitment to making sure Monmouth County schools get their fair share, fighting for resources like extraordinary special education funding, and taking on their own party to increase funding for LD11 schools make them the proven leaders our schools, students and taxpayers need.

“Eric and Joann know that our schools are the foundation for success here in Monmouth County, it’s why hardworking New Jerseyans want to live here, stay here, and raise their families here.  Eric and Joann are fighting for our students, educators and taxpayers to get the fair funding they deserve,” said King.

Both graduates of schools in New Jersey’s 11th District, Houghtaling and Downey have fought tirelessly for additional resources for LD11 schools.

“It is an honor to have the support of the thousands of teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff who make Monmouth County such a great place to live and raise a family,” said Houghtaling.

“As a mom with two kids in the Freehold Township public schools, I know that when we put our students first, we all win. With the hardworking educators and paraprofessionals of the NJEA by our side, we will continue to fight for our students and taxpayers to get the education they deserve,” said Downey.

The NJEA represents more than 200,000 active and retired members in New Jersey, including educators, paraprofessionals, and support staff.

Houghtaling and Downey are proud to have the support of New Jersey’s League of Conservation Voters, the Monmouth Ocean Regional Realtors, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers 400, and thousands more working people across New Jersey.
