NJOA Strongly Supports Bipartisan Push To Increase Marine Fisheries Funding
Trenton – Sportsmen’s advocacy group calls for action on pro-fisheries appropriation
The New Jersey Outdoor Alliance today released a statement supporting the passage of S-2793/A-4255, which would bring the total appropriation for Marine Fisheries Funding (a key component of the budget for sportsmen and outdoor recreation enthusiasts throughout New Jersey) to $3.668 MILLION.
“It is high time New Jersey’s coastline and marine fisheries got the funding they need to ensure habitat protection and enforcement of regulations meant to protect and preserve our outdoor traditions and heritage for generations to come,” said spokesman Cody McLaughlin. “The New Jersey Outdoor Alliance is proud of the strong bipartisan majority in both the Assembly and Senate which passed this critical piece of funding legislation and we are calling on the Governor to act swiftly to pass this crucial piece of legislation on behalf of New Jersey’s 1.2 million sportsmen and over 500,000 recreational saltwater anglers in our great state.”
The legislation, S-2793/A-4255, would provide a 2019 supplemental appropriation of $1.2 million to Shellfish and Marine Fisheries Management for Bureau of Marine Fisheries in DEP. This critical funding would ensure prime habitat and fishing is protected for generations to come along New Jersey’s badly underfunded coastline. The legislation passed with strong bipartisan majorities in both house, with the Senate voting 36 to 0 in favor and the Assembly voting 71 to 6 in favor.
