NJPP: Assembly Minority Leader’s Defense of Trickle Down Tax Cuts is Out of Touch With Economic Reality

The New Jersey Statehouse and Capitol Building In Trenton

Earlier today, Assembly Minority Leader Jon Bramnick defended $15 billion in cumulative tax breaks for the wealthy and well-connected. In response to his press conference, New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP) releases the following statement.

Brandon McKoy, President, NJPP:

“New Jersey lawmakers have a choice: they can either defend tax cuts for the wealthiest individuals and most profitable corporations or they can build a state economy that works for everyone. With his disappointing remarks today, it’s clear where Assembly Minority Leader Bramnick’s priorities lie. This is an alarming position and out of touch with the economic reality faced by millions of New Jersey families who struggle to make ends meet. The radical tax cuts of the Christie administration wrecked the state’s finances and fueled growing inequality, forcing average working families to pay more out-of-pocket for less. If we want our public schools to remain strong, our trains to run on time, and our children to graduate college without soul-crushing debt, the state must ensure ultra-wealthy families and profitable corporations pay their fair share.”

New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP) is a nonpartisan think tank that drives policy change to advance economic, social, and racial justice through evidence-based, independent research, analysis, and advocacy. NJPP is a co-convener of For The Many, a statewide coalition of more than 30 organizations working to expand funding for essential services and improve budget practices to adequately meet current and future needs, especially for communities that have been historically marginalized.
