NJPP: Immigrants are Backbone of Local Economies and Communities Across New Jersey

In response to the anti-immigrant comments detailed by The Intercept, NJPP releases the following statement highlighting the contributions of New Jersey’s immigrant communities.

ERIKA NAVA, POLICY ANALYST, NEW JERSEY POLICY PERSPECTIVE:

“New Jersey, home to Ellis Island, would not be the state it is today without its diversity and high share of immigrants. Regardless of their legal status, immigrants are the backbone of local economies and communities in every corner of the state. They are our neighbors, classmates, and coworkers; they own and operate small businesses on Main Street; and they pay taxes. Instead of inciting resentment towards immigrants, elected officials and political leaders should stand with immigrant communities and support policy measures that help them thrive, because when immigrants succeed, the entire state succeeds.”
