NJPP: State of the State Highlights Long-Term Investments and Solutions
Earlier today, Governor Phil Murphy delivered his second State of the State address where he reflected on policies passed over the last year and outlined his vision for 2020. In response to the governor’s address, New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP) releases the following statement.
Brandon McKoy, President, NJPP:
“New Jersey families — and the state’s finances — are on a stronger foundation today thanks to policies passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Murphy. In the last twelve months, the state has taken major steps to raise wages for low-paid workers, expand access to affordable health coverage, create opportunities for immigrant communities to thrive — and so much more. This is what happens when state government prioritizes the needs of everyday New Jerseyans over those of the wealthy and well-connected.
“Turning away from the shortcuts of the past and towards long-term solutions that prioritize the next generation is the best way to move the state forward. As New Jersey works through the challenges created by the Great Recession, delivering a stronger economy for all requires authentically centering racial and gender equity. The governor fully embraced that fact throughout his remarks. We look forward to working with his administration and the legislature in addressing rising inequality and advancing policies that ensure New Jersey lives up to its stated values of diversity, inclusion, and prosperity for all.”
