NJPP STATEMENT on Gov. Murphy’s Inaugural Budget Address

NEW JERSEY POLICY PERSPECTIVE PRESIDENT GORDON MacINNES:

“New Jersey’s 56th governor sent a clear message today that it’s time to put the Garden State back on the path to a fairer and stronger economic future.

In particular, his calls to make the state’s tax code fairer, raise wages and provide earned sick days for low-paid New Jerseyans, support our state’s striving immigrants, rein in overzealous tax breaks for corporations and reinvest in public education and mass transit are all welcomed, and we look forward to working with his administration and the new legislature to move these ideas from words in a speech to strong policies improving the lives of millions of New Jerseyans.

These are important first steps that signal a new day for New Jersey. But even bolder action will be required if we want to recapture the windfall of big federal tax cuts that corporations and millionaires now enjoy, truly tackle the state’s pressing problems, reduce income inequality and rebuild the state’s critical assets.”
