NJPP: Transition to Clean Energy Must Be Quick and Leave No One Behind

Earlier today, Governor Murphy announced several clean energy and climate initiatives to incentivize the transition to electric energy sources and away from fossil fuels, including a new executive order for the state to get 100 percent of its power from clean energy state by 2035. In response to the announcement, New Jersey Policy Perspective (NJPP) released the following statement.

Alex Ambrose, Policy Analyst, NJPP:

“New Jersey is already feeling the effects of the climate crisis, from worsening air pollution to more frequent and severe storms to unprecedented heat waves. The future health and prosperity of the state will require a quick transition from dangerous fossil fuels toward safer energy sources. But even with strong goals and benchmarks in place, we need to make sure no one is left behind in the transition to clean energy. It’s now up to the Legislature to produce a full package of bills alongside the new Clean Electricity Standard to make sure everyone can realize the cost savings and health benefits of electrification — not just those who can already afford it.”
