NJSDC: More Than 100 Faith Leaders Support Governor’s Budget

Governor Murphy’s budget isn’t just about sound math and sustainable revenues. Most importantly, this budget is about taking care of the most vulnerable and creating pathways to a brighter future for our children. That’s why more than 100 pastors, reverends and faith leaders from all throughout the state are joining forces and announcing their support for Governor Murphy’s budget.

Here’s what some of New Jersey’s religious and community leaders are saying to legislative leaders about the Murphy budget:

“Specifically, we ask you to look once again at tax fairness, and asking New Jersey’s millionaires and billionaires to pay a little more to ensure our kids can get the very best education. We also ask you to look to closing the corporate tax loopholes that help only the biggest and most powerful corporations, so we can reinvest in our communities and in the working families who desperately want to become part of New Jersey’s middle class.”
— Rev. Antonio A. Merino, President of the NJ Coalition of Latino Pastors and Ministers

“We are deeply concerned that the budget you passed quite frankly does not have the revenues necessary to ensure these investments are capable of being made and certainly not sustainable. We are critically aware that the budget you chose to pass falls nearly $1 billion short of balance, putting these important items in jeopardy almost immediately. We, the Faith Leaders of Congregations across the state, strongly urge you to return to the negotiating table with Governor Murphy in good faith and a renewed determination of facilitating the process of finding a more productive and sustainable path forward.”
— Rev. Dr. Darryl Armstrong, Shiloh Baptist Church, Trenton, NJ
