NJSDC: More Than 100 Local Elected Officials Support Murphy’s Budget

Governor Phil Murphy reinforced his confidence in Democratic State Committee Chairman John Currie, as Currie faces a challenge from Leroy Jones over who will lead the party in NJ.

State Legislative leaders are refusing to compromise and work with Governor Phil Murphy to pass a responsible, balanced budget that funds progressive priorities. They would rather play the same kind of budget games that we’re used to seeing from Trenton and employ Christie-style gimmicks to kick the can down the road. Governor Murphy is standing up for what’s right and working to make New Jersey stronger and fairer, and he’s not alone — over 100 local and county elected officials from throughout New Jersey are joining the fight and offering their support to the Governor’s budget.

“I’m proud to stand with Governor Murphy because I know he has our state’s best interests in mind. The investments his budget will make in community college and public transit are essential to keeping Hudson County moving forward as the economic engine of New Jersey.” — Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise

“This is a city-friendly budget especially for Paterson. I am proud to stand by Governor Murphy and offer him my support.” — Paterson Mayor-elect Andre Sayegh

“After 8 years of gimmicks, unfunded mandates and credit downgrades it is important for the State’s fiscal well being to adopt a budget that provides for sustainable funding. Governor Murphy’s budget ensures that we move towards financial stability.” — Clinton Mayor Janice Kovach
