Noemí Velázquez: “I am ready to reach the State Assembly”
Receives broad support from Latina leaders
JERSEY CITY. The prominent Puerto Rican educator and leader Noemi Velazquez continues her electoral campaign as a candidate for the State Assembly for District 31 in the general elections on Tuesday, November 7.
“I am ready to work in Trenton as a state assemblywoman and meet the housing needs of low-income families who cannot afford high rents and work harder to give them better access to health services,” declared Velazquez. “We have many families who have lost their apartments in multiple dwellings; the same thing happens with veterans of the armed forces who have nowhere to live,” declared the community leader.
Velázquez recently received the support of Latina Civic Action, an active organization that brings together Latina leaders in New Jersey. “Noemí is the perfect voice to represent all of us residents in the Assembly in Trenton and thus elevate the presence of the working community and the Latino and African American communities that fight for their future, and she knows that reality very well,” said its president Dr. Patricia Campos-Medina, at a recent activity in Jersey City.
The mission of Latina Civic Action is to increase the number of Latinas in elected and appointed positions in New Jersey by supporting Latina leaders with an agenda to advocate for the community.
“My candidacy for the State Assembly is because the majority of the inhabitants in this district are Latino families and therefore deserve better representation to defend their rights,” said Velázquez, who thanked the Latino leaders and voters for their support. in the 31st district.
Education, Housing and Security.
Regarding his work platform, Velázquez committed to increasing the state budget to provide better education in the schools that make up District 31, such as Bayonne, Jersey City, and Kearny. “There are needs in the education and health of children. It is tough to retain teachers, especially young people who develop new technologies in teaching,” he stressed when talking about teachers for his legislative district.
Velázquez assured that if elected as a state assemblywoman, she would be concerned about providing more resources to combat crime and being rigorous in granting permits to carry firearms.
She currently serves as vice president of the Jersey City School Board. She was re-elected for a second term last fall after obtaining nearly 18,000 votes, making her the leading winner in this disputed election.
Daily, Velazquez meets with neighbors and community leaders who belong to District 31 in Hudson County. Likewise, he answers calls and maintains open dialogue with community organizations and Latino families in Bayonne, Jersey City, and Kearny, which covers this legislative district. At his campaign office on Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City, he helps out on the voter registration team.
