Rep. Norcross Announces $6.87 Million Grant to New Jersey Transit for Zero-Emission Bus Transition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $6.87 million in grant funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to support New Jersey Transit’s transition to a zero-emission bus fleet. In 2021, Congressman Norcross voted to help pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law.

“Investing in zero-emission buses means cleaner air, better transit options, and good jobs right here in South Jersey,” said Rep. Donald Norcross. “This grant will improve mobility, protect the environment, and create jobs in our region. I will always support initiatives that strengthen our communities and provide a better future for New Jersey.”

“This grant, made possible through the generous support of the USDOT, demonstrates NJ TRANSIT’s steadfast commitment to sustainability,” said NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett. “Exploring transformative zero-emission bus technology is designed to deliver long-term benefits for our customers and the environment.”

The grant, awarded through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, will be used to fund long-term capital investments, fleet and service implementation plans, and advanced engineering and facility design to create a cleaner and greener transportation future for New Jersey.

The RAISE program, established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, funds surface transportation infrastructure projects with significant local and regional impact. Since its inception in 2009, it has provided over $14 billion for projects that improve safety, sustainability, economic competitiveness, and community connectivity.
