Norcross Announces Nearly $2 Million for Affordable Housing & Lead Clean Up in Gloucester County

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced that the Housing Authority of Gloucester County will receive $1,177,291 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to eliminate lead-based hazards and provide affordable housing for people with disabilities.

“Everyone deserves a safe, affordable place to call home,” said Congressman Donald Norcross.  “These grants will help us ensure that our neighbors and families are living in healthy environments that are free from dangerous substances. Plus, thanks to this federal funding, we will be combatting homelessness and those who need the most help in Gloucester County will be provided with access to stable housing.”

The Housing Authority of Gloucester County will receive:                   

• $786,100 for the Lead-Based Paint Capital Program
• $361,191 for the 2018 Mainstream Voucher Award for people with disabilities

“When federal funding comes back to Gloucester County it helps all of our residents,” said Gloucester County Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger. “Everyone deserves to live in safe, quality homes, and this funding will help provide a road for positive outcomes for families and children. We will continue to work with Congressman Norcross, service organizations and our partners in the Housing Authority to help bring federal grants like these back to Gloucester County.”

“It has always been the mission of the Housing Authority of Gloucester County (HAGC) to provide quality affordable housing opportunities to the families in our county that need it the most,” said Housing Authority of Gloucester County’s Board Chairman William W. Bain, Jr.  “The Voucher Program funding will provide 40 new vouchers for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing these families with secure permanent housing and a path for independent living in Gloucester County. The lead-based-paint capital fund allocation will allow us to keep residents safe and healthy, which is one of our top priorities.”

He added: “All of the progress in our community comes from critical partnerships, including HAGC cooperation with the Gloucester County Division of Human and Disability Services, the Arc Gloucester and New Point Behavioral Services. We look forward to working with our partners in the future and will continue to search for other opportunities that further our support the most vulnerable in Gloucester County.”

The Lead-Based Paint Capital Program

The Lead-Based Paint Capital Fund Program seeks eliminate lead-based paint hazards in public housing.  These funds are granted to public housing agencies to evaluate and reduce lead-based paint hazards by carrying out risk assessments.

The 2018 Mainstream Voucher Program

The Mainstream Voucher Program offers funding for non-elderly people with disabilities to access affordable housing and an array of supportive services.  It allows individuals to live independently in their communities.
