Norcross Joins Local Food Distributers to Discuss Food Security During COVID-19 Pandemic

CHERRY HILL, NJ – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) joined representatives from Del Monte Fresh Produce and Holt Logistics Corp. today to discuss their food donations to our local communities and the work they have done for our local food banks.

Norcross also addressed food security initiatives and action being taken on the federal level in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, he discussed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which strengthened food security initiatives, including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), student meals, senior’s nutrition and food banks, and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which provided $8.8 billion for child nutrition programs in the form of additional funding for food purchases.

“Across the country, millions of people are struggling to put food on the table as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to take a devastating toll on employment and the economy,” said Congressman Norcross. “No one should have to worry about whether they can afford to feed their families, and today, we thank Fresh Del Monte and Holt Logistics for stepping up to donate fresh produce and serve those in need in our community. As we all continue to adjust to this temporary new normal, South Jersey is grateful for the work being done here.”

We thank them for their generosity, and we thank our political leaders like Rep. Norcross who can always be counted on when it comes to helping the people throughout our region.”

“Our team at Fresh Del Monte continues to work every day through this pandemic to ensure we continue to deliver an uninterrupted supply of fresh fruits and vegetables; and to do our part in keeping the world fed during this difficult time,” said Todd Jetter, Port Operations Manager at Fresh Del Monte Produce. “The communities in which we operate are of prime importance to us and we are committed to giving back to those in need.”
