Supreme Court Appointment Threatens to Remake the Crown Jewel of our Democracy into a Rubber Stamp for Trumpism

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Following President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to be a U.S. Supreme Court Justice, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross released the following statement:

“The Supreme Court represents one of our three independent branches of government – not a tool for ideological agendas. Unfortunately, the President’s nominee is far outside the mainstream, and his appointment threatens to remake the crown jewel of our democracy into a rubber stamp for Trumpism.

“Some of our country’s most important values are at stake – including women’s rights, voting rights, the rights of workers to organize for higher wages, marriage equality, access to affordable healthcare and more – and Americans’ voices will be left behind if the court moves to the extreme right.

“Two years ago, Senate Republicans held a Supreme Court seat hostage and Leader McConnell said, ‘The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice.’ Let’s hold McConnell and Trump to that very same standard now.”
