NEW JERSEY –  On Thursday, March 3 at 7 P.M, Our Revolution Trenton Mercer (ORTM) will host a forum for all Mercer County Commissioner Candidates to present themselves to the public, and seek ORTM’s endorsement. All seven candidates have confirmed they will attend.

The forum will replace what is typically ORTM’s monthly meeting. Normally held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, this would have conflicted with the Mercer County Democratic Convention (MCDC).

You can register to attend the candidate forum via www.mobilize.us at: https://www.mobilize.us/ourrevolution/event/380170/. The meeting will take place virtually via zoom. Attendees will receive a Zoom link, sent to the email they register with. Press are encouraged to reach out and request the link be emailed to them directly.

This forum is planned ahead of the March 16th MCDC convention where a particularly competitive race for County Commissioner is expected. There are 7 potential candidates seeking the party’s endorsement and 2 seats open.

QUOTES:

“I’m excited for the new election cycle here in Mercer County. As a result of the ongoing pandemic, we’ve seen the need for progressive voices, policies and representation. I think this year in the Mercer County Commissioner race and beyond, we will begin to see these progressives put up a strong fight to realize better housing policies, addressing economic & racial inequalities, environmental justice and more policies that matter to all of us. We wish all candidates the best of luck on their respective campaigns!” -Brady Rivera, Elections Chair ORTM

“In the last two years MCDC conventions have become increasingly more competitive, and in that same time frame ORTM has grown increasingly more prominent. 2022 will undeniably be one of the most competitive conventions and in-turn have some of the most progressive faces Mercer County has seen.” – Victor Miguel Rivera, Communications Chair ORTM

“I am eager to learn about the candidates’ policy stances and consider them for endorsement. After helping ORTM-endorsed candidate Terrance Stokes oust 27-year incumbent Anne Cannon during last year’s Convention, we feel confident we can have an impact.

However, there is an elephant in the room: there will be about 400-500 Mercer County Democratic Convention delegates, versus 121,870 registered Democrats in our County. Yet because our primary election ballot format is rigged, these few delegates will pick our Commissioners for us. Until this undemocratic system is fixed, the Convention is essentially the primary election. We will treat it as such, by platforming the candidates for convention delegates and the general public alike.” – Joe Marchica, Co-Chair and Founder of ORTM
