O’Scanlon, DiMaso & Scharfenberger Call for Immediate Stop to Toll Hike Proposals

Insider NJ's Jay Lassiter argues that while cannabis legalization in NJ is a long way away, expunging the records of people unfairly harmed by the war on drugs so that they can more meaningfully contribute to our shared society should be more important to lawmakers right now.

O’Scanlon, DiMaso & Scharfenberger Call for Immediate Stop to Toll Hike Proposals

Senator Declan O’Scanlon, Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso, and Assemblyman Gerry Scharfenberger (all R-Monmouth) call on Governor Phil Murphy and New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner and New Jersey Turnpike Authority Chair Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti to halt hearings and plans to increase tolls during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

“We are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic that threatens our health and economy – now is not the time for Trenton to conduct ‘business as usual’ across the state and push through this unneeded policy while everyone is distracted. So today, we are calling on the governor and the NJDOT Commissioner to immediately halt any and all public hearings, discussions, and plans of pursuing toll hikes.”

“We are face to face with the international COVID-19 crisis affecting everyone across the globe and specifically right here in New Jersey – it is not only highly inappropriate, but egregious to continue these controversial and costly plans that will only serve to increase the hardships New Jerseyans are bearing which will undoubtedly only grow over the coming months. We should not and cannot increase the weight they are carrying. So let’s be clear and pull these proposals right now!”
