Senator Declan O’Scanlon and Assemblywoman Serena DiMaso (both R-Monmouth) released a statement following a United States Supreme Court decision reversing the ban on sports betting:

“This is a huge victory for justice and fairness as there has been a bipartisan effort for years to address this arbitrary ban on sports betting. Monmouth Park is a vital cornerstone for our community in Oceanport, and further, for the entire region.” said O’Scanlon “Horse racing is crucial to New Jersey’s economy as well as the preservation of our open space. Our horse racing industry is responsible for the preservation of thousands of acres of open space. Anything that helps the industry directly helps reserve that invaluable resource.”

“Striking down the sports betting ban paves the way for a boom to Monmouth Park and our horse racing industry across the State. Not only that, but we will see hundreds more come to patronize local businesses. The importance of this decision cannot be overstated,” DiMaso continued “Former Governor Christie, many of those in the Legislature, and our friends in the horse racing industry have worked together to make this possible. We will work with the Governor, legislature, and the racing and gaming industries to make sure that the benefits of this decision are fairly allocated.”
