Over a Dozen Organizations Call Upon Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. to Sign Election Integrity Pledge

Dear Congressman Kean,

Until 2021, the peaceful transfer of power had been a hallmark of American democracy. For almost 250 years, after a hard-fought campaign season, both sides would come together to acknowledge the winner of election contests from borough council all the way up to president of the United States.

As we enter the closing stretch of another presidential campaign, we are asking you to put loyalty to the Constitution ahead of loyalty to your chosen presidential candidate, Donald Trump, by joining a bipartisan group of your Congressional colleagues, who have signed a letter pledging to safeguard the fairness and integrity of our nation’s democratic process.

Specifically, the signers of this letter have pledged to: acknowledge that the election winner certified by Congress is the legitimate President, to attend the President’s inauguration ceremony in person, and to speak out against those who would violate our electoral process by engaging in violence that harms people, property or public spaces.

While it is deeply troubling that such a pledge is even needed, it is even more troubling that up to now you have failed to make such a simple public declaration.

Commitment to our Constitution and our nation’s democratic norms should transcend party politics.

We demand that you put partisan politics aside and demonstrate to your constituents that you will fight to uphold their democratic right to freely choose their next President — regardless of who ultimately prevails.

If you fail to take this simple step, then you will only further embolden the MAGA extremists you have allied yourself with.

Sincerely,
