P.O.P. GOES TO WASHINGTON DC

FOR MARCH ON WASHINGTON ANNIVERSARY!

On Saturday, August 26th, the People’s Organization for Progress are hosting a bus to participate in the 60th anniversary of the epic March On Washington!

On August 28th, 1963, at least 250,000 people came from all over the country to participate in the March for Jobs and Freedom, or what has come to be known as ‘March On Washington’!

The date for the epic gathering was the anniversary of the haunting brutal slaying of 14 year old Emmitt Till in Mississippi on that day in 1955.

The March was to be an interracial galvanizing call for a Civil Rights Bill.

It was coordinated by the major Civil Rights organizations of the time-The NAACP, the Congress of Racial Equality or CORE, the Urban League, the Student NonViolent Coordinating Committee or SNCC and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference or SCLC.

The seminal highlight of the gathering was Dr. Martin Luther King’s legendary ‘I Have A Dream’ message.

This year’s gathering has been labeled ‘A Continuation Not A Commemoration.’

“From Women’s Rights to Civil Rights, Dr. King would be appalled to see the very rights we were gaining being intentionally taken away as we see that happening now 60 years later,” said a disgusted Lawrence Hamm, chairman of the People’s Organization for Progress.

The bus for this epic gathering expecting to draw participants from all over the country will leave Newark at 5am and will leave from near the new Essex County Courthouse Complex 15 South Orange Avenue, Newark.

Seats for this gathering are $50 per person. Anyone wishing to go on this trip, please call 973 801 0001…
