Pallone Announces $865,430 Federal Grant to Rutgers to Support Special Education

New Brunswick – Today, Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded Rutgers University $865,430 through the Special Education Research Program. Rutgers will use the funds to study the effectiveness of training for behavioral support providers, in order to ensure teachers and paraprofessionals have the tools necessary to support children with behavior disorders.

“I am pleased that the Department of Education has selected Rutgers University to receive this federal grant as this gives our state the opportunity to improve our schools and special education programs, so they can better serve our children with disabilities,” said Pallone. “These types of studies ensure we are giving our teachers and local schools everything they need to provide the best education possible to our children with special needs.”

The funding for the grant is authorized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, which established the National Center for Special Education Research, within the Institute for Education Services, in order to provide scientific evidence on which to ground education practice and policy.
