Pallone and NJ Environmental Leaders hold press conference on impact of November’s Election on our Shore and Environment
Long Branch – With environmental protections decimated by the Christie/Guadagno and Trump Administrations, New Jersey needs a Governor who will protect our environment, pursue a clean energy economy, combat climate change, and prioritize the ongoing Sandy recovery. Congressman Frank Pallone along with Jeff Tittel (New Jersey Sierra Club), Amy Goldsmith (Clean Water Action), and Doug O’Malley (Environment New Jersey) contrasted the environmental failures of the Christie and Guadagno administration with the positive vision of Phil Murphy and Sheila Oliver. A Murphy Administration will once again make New Jersey a leader in environmental protection, protect our coast, and focus on resiliency and recovery of our Sandy communities.
“Phil Murphy has a bold environmental agenda that our state has desperately lacked for the last 8 years under the Christie/Guadagno Administration,” said Frank Pallone. “Phil has made it absolutely clear the he is on the side of clean energy and environmental protection pledging to start the process of creating a master plan that sets New Jersey on the path to 100 percent clean energy by 2050.”
The environmental failures of the Christie/Guadagno administration have put New Jersey at greater risk and cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars. Kim Guadagno silently stood by as Governor Christie pulled New Jersey out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). Phil Murphy will immediately rejoin RGGI and the US Climate Alliance to make sure New Jersey upholds the Paris Agreement. The Christie/Guadagno administration watched New Jersey lose 1,000 jobs in the solar industry last year and single handily stopped offshore wind from being developed in New Jersey. Phil Murphy will prioritize solar energy production and job creation and set the most ambitious offshore wind target in the country with a goal of 3,500 megawatts of offshore wind generation by 2030.
“With many of our Shore towns still recovering from Super Storm Sandy, the effects of climate change and the need to elect a Governor who understands the threat is of the greatest importance,” said Pallone. “We need a Governor who won’t turn their back on our communities still rebuilding 5 years later.”
New Jersey desperately needs to turn the page from the Christie/Guadagno administration. They have abandoned New Jersey’s legacy as a leader of environmental protection. Phil Murphy will restore that legacy.
