Pallotta:  Gottheimer praises COVID funding bill that ignored his district

“Congress has provided much-needed resources to combat the virus by passing the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. I was proud to support this landmark, bipartisan legislation that addressed the pandemic by providing resources for increased testing, support for hospitals, and provisions of personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers.”

– From Gottheimer’s statement today

Reacting to a taxpayer-funded press release in which Congressman Josh Gottheimer took credit for the funding formula in the CARES Act, congressional candidate Frank Pallotta issued the following statement:

“Josh Gottheimer issued a statement praising the CARES Act with a funding formula thought-up by Nancy Pelosi and designed to put the constituents of politicians like Bill DiBlasio over the taxpayers of the 5th District.  Josh knows full well that the CARES Act funding formula put politics ahead of addressing COVID-19 and instead of using a more relevant formula like “cases per 100,000” or “deaths per 100,000”, Democrat Congressional Leadership used a ridiculous “HUD formula” that ensured counties like Sussex and Warren were left out in the cold, and short-changed dozens of communities throughout the 5th District.”

“Now, it is vital that we break the logjam between the two parties and get negotiators back in the room to help our nation’s response to the COVID crisis and get these resources to the American people. I joined a bipartisan group of Members of Congress in two letters urging House leadership to work on a fifth COVID-19 relief package.”

– From Gottheimer’s statement today

Pallotta continued:

“Before spending billions more, why not  stand up to your party leaders who care little for the rural, Republican counties in your district, and see to it all the residents of 5th District – regardless of population – are treated equally in times of crisis. It’s time to recognize our rural counties that have long been neglected by Democrat leadership.  Say no to the politics of Nancy Pelosi and Bill DiBlasio.”
